York Gift Card gets a new look

The York Gift Card has been established since October 2019 with the familiar image of York Minster by local artist Jonathan Williams, resident artist at The Braithwaite Gallery.

The card now offers a choice of designs, with another of York’s iconic building’s – Clifford’s Tower, captured by Jonathan.

Jonathan is a highly skilled silk artist, and the striking new image is from a silk painting using the Serti Technique. Jonathan said of the painting, “My design is drawn directly onto pre-washed, dried and stretched white silk using a Gutta resist. It requires a steady hand and concentration.”

The York Gift Card is run by the York BID (Business Improvement District) and takes the headache out of choosing a gift, with over 300 local businesses in the city centre accepting the card.

The range of businesses includes both local and national businesses across a range of sectors, including fashion, food, drink, museums, and galleries, making it the most flexible and locally sustainable present around. The latest businesses to join the scheme are Rohan and Burgsy’s restaurant. Look out for the York Gift Card sign or check the website for participating businesses.

Carl Alsop, Operations Manager of York BID, said, “The York gift card already gives great choice, so it’s nice to be able to offer a choice of designs as well, and we hope to add more in the future.”

The York Gift Card is a preloaded Mastercard and can be redeemed in multiple transactions in a variety of businesses in the city centre area. This BID initiative is a great gift for any occasion and can also be used as an employee incentive or bonus scheme. If anyone has an existing card which has expired during lockdown they should email the BID on info@theyorkbid.com for a replacement card.
