York BID launches ‘Shop York’ initiative to support York’s High Streets

York BID is excited to announce the launch of its brand-new initiative, Shop York, a city-wide campaign designed to encourage residents to explore and shop locally on York’s vibrant and unique high streets during a typically quieter time of year.

Running throughout the whole of February, Shop York offers a fun and engaging way for shoppers to support local shops while earning the chance to win exciting prizes.

The Shop York campaign invites shoppers to collect a ‘Passport’ from Visit York or participating businesses. Shoppers earn one sticker for every £5 spent at over80 participating retailers. Once you collect five stickers from five different retailers, you can enter a prize draw for the chance to win the grand prize of a £500 York Gift Card, along with other fantastic prizes donated by local businesses.

Rachel Bean, Project Manager at York BID, said; “We are thrilled to launch Shop York, an initiative that not only highlights the incredible diversity of our city’s retail scene but also gives back to the community. Shop York is a win-win: shoppers discover fantastic local businesses, and retailers benefit from increased footfall during a quieter period of the year.”

Shop York is proudly funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Shop York is open to all York residents, and participation is easy:

  1. From Saturday 1st February 2025, pick up your Shop York Passport from Visit York or participating businesses. You will find them here: https://www.shop-york.co.uk/
  2. Collect a sticker for every £5 spent at participating retailers.
  3. Fill your Passport with stickers from five different businesses before Friday 28th February and enter the prize draw.

Participation is free for retailers that are York BID or Indie York members. Each participating business will receive promotional support through the Shop York website, an extensive marketing campaign, and the opportunity to showcase exclusive offers.
