Reignite VIII: The Stories We Tell Ourselves

The eighth edition of Reignite, the hugely popular and leading cultural event for York & North Yorkshire, returns at the end of this month. Reignite VIII: The Stories We Tell Ourselves is set to explore the transformative power of culture in shaping our places and communities. The event will take place on Thursday 27th March from 5.30pm at the Yorkshire Museum, followed by a LATE event at York Art Gallery, where guests can experience the recently opened Harland Millar exhibition.

This instalment will delve into how cultural narratives can be harnessed to create vibrant and inclusive places. Renowned speakers from Bradford City of Culture and Culture Liverpool will share their insights on how culture can be used to reimagine places, drive economic and social impact, and engage diverse communities to build better futures.

Director of Aesthetica, Cherie Federico says: “Culture has the profound ability to reshape places, breathe new life into cities and regions, and drive meaningful regeneration. The success of Reignite underscores the undeniable impact of high-level cultural programming, not just as an economic driver but as a catalyst for connection and inspiration. By bringing together leading voices in the creative industries, we can harness the power of culture to reimagine spaces, empower communities and create lasting positive change.”

Rachel Bean, Project Manager at York BID, said: “Reignite is a vital platform for anyone with a vested interest in York’s future, and we are excited to welcome representatives from across all sectors of business to join us. York’s cultural landscape affects all of us, and I can’t wait to learn how neighbouring cities have succeeded in using cultural programming to challenge perceptions, celebrate local identities, and foster a sense of belonging.”

Guests will hear engaging presentations from Shanaz Gulzar, Creative Director of Bradford City of Culture, and the team at Culture Liverpool. Presentations will be followed by a cross-sector panel discussion to share good practice and ask thought provoking questions. The LATE event at York Art Gallery will provide attendees with an unparalleled opportunity to connect with hundreds of professionals across the region, while enjoying a complimentary drink and DJ, Upside Your Mind.

Reignite unites the city in support of the high growth and economic potential of the creative industries. We live in a city where amazing things are happening – it’s time to celebrate and #ReigniteYork
